The Barred Owl

Barred Owl
Driving my son home from school yesterday we spotted this beautiful Barred Owl. The Barred Owl is a common non-migratory bird that can be found throughout the northern United States.  Although owls are nocturnal they do come out during the daytime. Still, this is the first time I have ever seen one stick around long enough to have its picture taken.

The Barred Owl is a large typical owl native to North America. It goes by many other names, including Eight Hooter, Rain Owl, Wood Owl, and Striped Owl, but is probably best known as the Hoot Owl based on its call.
