Snowshoes and Birds

This coming weekend, February 8 and 9, has some wonderful events happening- including our own Annual Snowshoe Event at Broadview Farm!  This is such a fun and well attended event that we at Go Green look forward to each year.  It is on Saturday, February 8th, starts at 12 noon,  and goes until we pack up at 3 pm.  Snowshoes for adults and kiddos will be available to use (from EMS in Salem, NH and East Derry Elementary School).  Broadview Farm is on Young Rd in East Derry between East Derry Rd and Old Chester Rd.  We will have a cozy fire with marshmallows to roast as well as some hot cocoa, too!

One of the other events happening this weekend is the Derry School District Deliberative Session which will take place at 10 am on February 8th at West Running Brook Middle School.  This is an important meeting to attend so that you can vote on what items you would like to see on the School Budget.

More regionally, the New Hampshire Audubon Society is hosting its  Backyard Winter Bird Survey.  This is a fun citizen science project to do alone or with family.  Much like our project of counting bees in the summer, this survey asks you to spend as little or as much time on Saturday and/or Sunday as you can watching your yard for birds, identify them, count them, and send in the results. Our observations help researchers gather information about the bird species that winter in our state of New Hampshire!  Click on the link above or type in this web address to access the data form: http://www.nhaudubon.org/birding/data-form-instructions.

I plan on filling up the feeder and having the kiddos and I count birds in the morning before we set out for the Deliberative Session and Snowshoe Event!  See you there!
