What a great job everyone has done cleaning up the roadsides in Derry. I explained this event to a friend who asked why we do it if the trash just shows up again in a few days. While frustrating to see, it is the same reason I vacuum and mop my house floors. I don’t expect them to stay sparkly clean all week long… I am just doing my household cleaning chores. Well, Derry is our community’s house and that is why we clean it up. The amount of blue bags collected this week is amazing and our totals are only a part of what the Transfer Station has been receiving from individuals all week long! So now that our streets are looking a bit nicer, what else can we do to celebrate Earth Day (Week)? The Nature Conservancy is suggesting everyone go outside and have a Picnic for the Planet while Earth Day Network is asking everyone to log in their “green” act to help make their One Billion Acts of Green. While every day should be Earth Day, what is one thing that you can do differently everyday? There are plenty of ideas to choose from. Here are our 5 Ways to Go Green in Derry:
- Turn off the lights.
- Turn off the water when you brush your teeth.
- Walk or ride my bicycle or arrange car pools with friends.
- Don’t trash it! Recycle-Reduce-Reuse
- Turn off televisions, video game systems and other electronics when not in use.
