Cold Winter Days

These past few days have certainly felt like winter.  Although there is no snow on the ground to suggest winter activities, we know that will be changing soon enough.  Last year, I was late in getting my decorations inside and so a few light strings remained on my front bushes, offering tasty nibbles for the mice throughout the season.  This year, I took the opportunity to take down the decorations on the first warm day after New Years.  I have also learned that this cold weather does chew up my heating bill.  According to the U.S. Department of Energy, home heating and cooling makes up over 50% of our residential energy costs.  I have made upgrades and adjustments as I’m sure many of you have done as well to reduce our household energy use.  Then I found a neat Energy Calculator at the Home Energy Saver website.  It helps to have your electricity and gas bills when filling it out and it doesn’t take too long.  Try it out and you might be suprised to find out that there is more you can do to reduce your energy footprint!

Our next Go Green Derry meeting is on January 5th at the Municipal Building at 7 PM.  We will be focusing our efforts on our February and March events.  Anyone is welcome to attend a meeting so put on an extra sweater and join us!
